Morning Poetry

It is a mad world that we live in.

Friendships are made as fast as they are lost,

Strangers become friends and some stranger.

Even water becomes thicker than blood.

Whoever thought it would all end in a tragedy,

Actually it resembles a tragicomedy.

What is kindly given is repaid with brashness,

And the quiet soul is constantly beaten.

It is easy to speak your mind and be the clanging gong of your peers,

But no one likes a blunt tongue.

It may not cut the skin but the words stay forever imprinted.

Words, words, so tiresome they are.

However lofty thought they may be, are easier to preach than to live by.

Go to speaking school, they might teach a word or two,

A willing heart may turn spiteful words to sweetest tunes.

It is easy to be the joker, the centre of every banter,

But know this; it is only because of all those bored listeners.

“Oh, you are such a fool

You should have spoken up, stood up for yourself.

See, now everyone thinks you are weak.”

It takes more strength to be silent than to fight back, to turn the other cheek.

And whoever thought it would all end in a tragedy,

Actually it resembles a tragicomedy.

But I am not laughing.
